Song of the Summer is probably one of the highest achievements an artist can achieve. It’s just under getting a Grammy and being asked to join Taylor Swift’s squad. And with every summer season comes a plethora of contenders all vying for the coveted title of song of the summer. And it seems Summer ’16 is full of many contestants. All of these songs are perfect for summer. Their fun, dancy, and sexual. And really what more can do you want in a song? So I’ve comprised a list of the best potential songs of the summer. So who will join the ranks of “California Gurls”, “Call Me Maybe”, and “Can’t Feel My Face”? We’ll have to wait till September to find out.
One Dance – Drake
Did you really think I’d make a Summer Playlist without drake. This is the kind of song that makes you want to move your hips and twerk uncontrollably. #Summer16 #SummerofDrake
Into You – Ariana Grande
This song is my everything. It could possibly be Ariana’s best song to date, and that’s saying a lot. It’s sexy, romantic, and makes me want to gyrate my hips. I need to thank Ariana, because this song has graced me with my Instagram caption for the next month. Also listen to Ariana’s new album, it’s amazing and she deserves recognition.
Treat You Better – Sean Mendes
Try to deny it if you want but Sean Mendes is a bop maker. After “Stiches” came out it was hard to think how he could top that, but here we are. “Treat You Better” is a fun pop song that everyone can get down too. Plus the lyrics are super romantic. I mean I wish I had to guys lusting after me.
All In My Head – Fifth Harmony (Flex) feat. Fetty Wap
While the song isn’t as good as their previous release “Work From Home” it will still make you want to get up and dance. And that’s all you really want from a summer song.
Kill em With Kindness – Selena Gomez
While it’s not as good as “Hands to Myself”, it’s still a certified bop. Slay me Selegend!
“I Didn’t Just Come Here To Dance” – Carly Rae Jepsen
Okay I realize that this isn’t a true contender for song of the summer, but it should be. As a good gay, I’m bringing awareness to the pop genius that is Carly Rae Jepsen. Everyone go Spotify her Emotion album. It’s amazing and Carly Slay Jepsen needs justice.
Can’t Stop The Feeling – Justin Timberlake
This is the official feel good song of the summer. You can’t help but smile and bop your head while listening to it. The only downside is that it’s probably your grandma’s new favourite song.
Cheap Thrills – Sia Feat. Sean Paul
Thank you Queen Sia for reviving Sean Paul’s career. I may have expensive taste but I got cheap thrills.
This is What you Came For – Calvin Harris Feat. Rihanna
The dynamic duo is back at it again. It’s been years since “We Found Love” came out and Calvin Harris and Rihanna prove they are forces to be reckoned with. Contrary to the song name, do not come for Bad Gal RiRi.
Panda – Desiigner
Please don’t ask me to explain the appeal of this song. But if Beyoncé and Kanye West approve it can’t be that bad.
Hold Up – Beyonce
It’s Queen Bey. Enough said.
